Perran Tennis Inter Primary Schools Tournament

Last Friday saw Perran Tennis host the fourth annual inter primary schools competition. The three schools local to Perran Tennis competed in what proved to be perfect conditions. Players were further enthused as they had the opportunity to play on grass during the Wimbledon fortnight. Doubles was the order of the day, each team comprising of three pairs who battled it out on the six grass courts. Perranporth School produced two teams, whilst Goonhavern and Mithian entered one each.

The standard of play was again higher this year with each pair playing one set against the other three similarly ranked pairs. Following round one saw Mithian and Goonhavern tying in first place. After round two Mithian pulled away by three games. After some great matches Perranporth “B” were placed third with eighteen games and Perranporth “A” gaining sixteen games in fourth place. Despite a gallant effort by Goonhavern Mithian held on to their slim lead to finish overall champions with fifty one games to Goonhavern’s forty eight game total.

Mithian’s winning team comprised of Ben Bradley, Izzie Mansell, Finlay Stribley, Molly Doyle-Lay, Pablo Jackson and Becky Maynard. Runners-up Goonhavern consisted of Lucinda Hawken, Matt Walker, Elenka Zwozdiak, Ozzy Burns, Aysha Bennie and Max Brown.
