Perran Tennis holds first Speed Comp
Speed was king at Perran Tennis on Sunday as twenty four players took to the grass courts on a sunny afternoon. Fast and furious matches were played at a lightning pace to the sound of an air horn. Eight rounds of doubles were completed in two and a half hours. Each competitor scored a total per round of the number of games played + the number of games won, which proved tactically interesting. Final scores were close in both the ladies section and men’s group.
Prizes were awarded as follows – fourth placed lady with 64 points was Lauren Taylor, joint third in the men’s section were Oliver Walker and Chris Legg with 66 points. Third placed lady with 66 points was Jane Foster with Jacqui Hancock runner-up with 77 points. The men’s second place went to Paul Taylor accumulating 71 points. The overall winners of the afternoon’s play were Ali Legg and Xavier Boland with 78 and 72 points respectively.
Following play a well-received tea was served by Club Treasurer Alison Luck. The photograph shows junior Sian McDermott who assisted Club Coach Steve Luck in the smooth running of the event by auctioning the air horn together with afternoon prize winners.
