Perran Tennis Wooden Racket Competition

Perran Tennis Wooden Racket Competition

Perran Tennis held its annual wooden racket competition on Sunday. Following the rain in the morning things cheered up to produce a fine afternoon, ideal for grass court play. Twenty-two players took to the six grass courts and played the club’s version of fast 4 tennis. Four games are played and if tied a tie-break ensues. There are no deuces.

The twenty-two players (double the entry last year) competed in six rounds throughout the afternoon. At tea the top two ladies and top two men were to play a final. As there was a three way tie for the second placed man a deciding three way points game took place. Richard Seddon and Paul Taylor were both eliminated by Ian Gosling-Brown who took his place in the final.

Ian was partnered by the first placed lady Alison Legg. Ian and Alison took on Chris Legg (top man) and June Fallow (second placed lady). Ian and Alison won the final by three games to one. A short presentation saw Club President Dave Pell present the winners and runners-up with their medals.

The next event at Perran Tennis will be the Wimbledon Party. This event on the first Saturday will involve juniors in the morning and adults in the afternoon. Wimbledon will be shown live and strawberries and cream served! Tickets are now available from Steve Luck on 07860 446209.
