Perran Tennis Junior Tennis Tournament

Sixteen players took place in the second of three junior tennis tournaments for emerging competitors on Friday. The weather was showery, but this did not put off our intrepid players. Ages ranged from nine to fifteen, some sampling competitive tennis for the first time. Every junior player took part in five rounds of continuous match play. This enabled less experienced players to compete with and against juniors with a match background.

The results were extremely close. Three girls tied in the runners-up spot and two boys did likewise. In the boy’s section Ivan Flewitt and Logan Watkins took the runner’s-up slot with twenty-two and a half points, just one and a half points behind the eventual winner Guy Hillary. The girls section produced a three-way tie for the runners-up spot. Annabelle Duncan, Ally Holmes and Zara Watkins each scoring twenty-four points. The overall winner with just half a point more was Willow Thompson. Medals were presented to Ivan, Logan, Guy, Annabelle, Ally, Zara and Willow by Club President Dave Pell.

One more tournament will be held on Friday 24th August (2-4.30pm). These events are open to any junior who wishes to experience match play. Further details – contact Club Coach Steve Luck on 07860 446209.
