Perran Tennis Junior Club Championships 2015

Last Sunday saw Perran Tennis hold the annual junior club championships. The wet morning began with the 16 and unders having to compete on the hard courts as the grass courts were out of action due to the previous night’s rain. This was to prove the case throughout the day, which would prove to prolong the play to 2pm.

In the boys section level 2 was keenly contested with Ben Bradley progressing to the challenger round despite a good fight from Huw Owen.

Similarly in the girls’ level two Lucinda Hawken managed to top the group despite a wonderful performance from Maddie Pippin.

In the 16 boys main draw the usual suspects Harry Lampier and Oliver Walker came through. Harry took on Ben Bradley as the challenger who produced some fine shots. The more experienced player – Harry came through to meet the three times winner Oliver Walker.

The main draw in the girls 16 saw Rebe Winn move smoothly through to the final. Amani Hart a three time winner took on challenger Lucinda Hawken and won despite some great ground shots from Lucinda.

The 10’s and Under boys saw Guy Hilary play his first tournament and produce good displays against Archie Mallett and Matt Legg. Matt defeated the experienced county player Archie in the round robin section to set up an interesting final.

Hollie Jennings and Lydia Hawken would compete in the girls 10’s final.

The boys 8’s saw four players in tournament action for the very first time. Matches were very tight especially Ben Perry versus Eathan Chapman which saw a score of 15-13. Other matches involving Rueben Banks and Daniel Bradley were equally exciting. Eventually Daniel and Ethan made it to the final stage.

All finals were of a higher standard than in previous years.
